The SEC Football Championship Belt is a championship that is won and defended/lost on a linear basis like that of boxing or wrestling. The belt begins by being awarded to the SEC Champion of the conference's first official season (1933) and is defended each time the champion plays another conference opponent. Alabama, Current SEC Football Championship Belt holder, will defend the belt again in 2017 on September 23rd when the Crimson Tide travel to Nashville for the first time since 2007 to take on Vanderbilt. Nick Saban's first conference win came in Nashville ten years ago against the Commodores and now his team holds the illustrious SEC Football Championship Belt, so the stakes will be raised for this meeting. An upset by the Commodores would give Vanderbilt their sixth reign as belt holders and first since 1982.
